Last Frost & Full Speed Ahead

Last frost passes for most of the US. Plant out your hardened-off starts, direct-sow warm-season crops, and enjoy the first harvests of the year.

Transplant tomatoes, peppers & eggplant

Wait until after your last frost date (check plant-maps.com). Plant tomatoes deep — up to the first set of leaves.

Direct-sow beans, squash & cucumbers

These crops hate root disturbance — sow direct once soil hits 60°F. They grow fast from seed.

Harvest first lettuce, spinach & radishes

Cut lettuce as cut-and-come-again. Harvest spinach before temps hit 80°F or it bolts.

Set up soaker hoses or drip irrigation

Install before summer arrives. Drip irrigation cuts water use by 50% and reduces fungal disease.

Pinch basil seedlings

Pinch the growing tip when basil has 3–4 sets of leaves. Encourages bushy growth vs a single stalk.

🌱 Tip: Plant marigolds near tomatoes, squash, and beans — they repel aphids, whiteflies, and nematodes naturally.
